Welcome to The Daily Rachel, a newsletter written by @rachelcomplains.
Here you’ll find:
Reflections on new TV shows (like this one on The History of Swear Words or this one on the Saved by the Bell reboot)
Letters to readers who have submitted recommendation requests (on crafting, on books for those of us with short attention spans, you get it)
A crossword every Friday (here’s an example)
Silly stream of conscious blogs (on knowing nothing about star wars, on instagram fonts, one on gifts)
Who am I:
A zoomer
An entertainment journalist whose written about tv, books, movies, and music for a range of publications, including Wall Street Journal, Vox, and Vulture
A Canadian living in the US
A Fred Armisen apologist
A person who’s obsessed with reading about network executives and their twisted minds
A former zine editor and one-time playwright
I make this because I really enjoy popular culture and connecting with other people over this shared enjoyment. I needed somewhere to divert the energy I used to spend at cafes, gushing with a friend about the 2005 rom-com Just Like Heaven or whatever, pre-pandemic, so I started writing this dispatch every day. Even though I’m pretty opinionated, I hope not to come off as believing my opinion to be the be all end all.
I hope you’ll join me and write back or send in a recommendation request if you feel so inclined.
